Make It Count - Nike Viral Video

One more interesting viral video to analyze and learn from it.

This is a story about Nike hiring two guys, Casey Neistat and Max Joseph, to make for them an advertisement for the Nike FuelBand (an athletic-performance tracking device). Deal was simple, Nike was giving some money to those guys and they should come out with a a killer spot highlighting the slogan, "Make It Count."

Well,... things went a bit different.  Instead of producing the agreed-upon treatment showing how everyday people are making their lives count, Neistat and Joseph took the money and ran -- right around the globe.

For 10 days they circled the globe having one mammoth adventure until the entire stash ("It was a lot of money," is all the guys will cop to) ran out.
The pair racked up 34,000 miles, dropped in on three continents, 13 countries and 16 cities. The result is a "Make It Count" travel video diary that's gone viral.

This is the result video:

Marketing Automation

Marketing Automation is about using marketing automation systems in order to create automatic marketing activities lifecycles, managing marketing processes and also the analysis and reporting of the results and efficiency of marketing campaigns developed. Main areas of full marketing automation system:

  • Marketing Intelligence uses tracking codes in social media, email and webpages to track the behavior of anyone interested in a product or service to gain a measure of intent. It can record which social media group or thread they followed, which link was clicked on in an email or which search term was used to access a website. Multiple link analysis can then track buyer behavior - following links and multiple threads related to product A but not B will show an interest only in A. This allows more accurately targeted response and the development of a nurturing program specifically targeted towards their interest and vertical market. Due to its interactive nature this has been described as Marketing Automation 2.0.
  • Marketing Automation has a focus on moving leads from the top of the marketing funnel through to becoming sales-ready leads at the bottom of the funnel. Prospects are scored, based on their activities, and then presented drip campaign messaging via email and social channels, thus nurturing them from first interest through to sale. Commonly used in business-to-business (B2B), business-to-government (B2G), or longer sales cycle business-to-consumer (B2C) sales cycles, Marketing Automation involves multiple areas of marketing and is really the marriage of email marketing technology coupled with a structured sales process.
  • Advanced Workflow Automation encompasses automation of internal marketing processes. These includes budgeting and planning, workflow and approvals, the marketing calendar, internal collaboration, digital asset creation and management and essentially everything that supports the operational efficiency of the internal marketing function. Typically these systems require a CRM or COM administrator to set up a complex series of rules to trigger action items for internal sales and marketing professionals to manually process (designing files, sending letters, sending email campaigns). This type of system increases marketers ability to deliver relevant content to relevant individuals at relevant times. Limitations may apply, based on the human resource capacity of an organization and their level of commitment to the tasks as they are assigned.

Fully developed marketing automation systems provide information across all phases of the marketing process, including:

  • Demand Generation
  • Lead Management
  • Lead Scoring
  • Lead Nurturing
  • Lead Generation
  • Campaign Analysis
  • Lead Qualification
  • Sales Effectiveness

Probably the best platform nowadays for marketing automation is Marketo.

There are other platforms like Eloqua with similar features, however Marketo is easier to use, they are innovating faster and they have also better prices.

Analytics for Mobile Apps

Are you looking for tools to track how users interact with you mobile application, iOS or Android? Here a couple of solutions, the Google Analytics (free) and a bit more sophisticated from Cem4Mobile (commercial).

Google Analytics for Mobile Apps

In addition to the JavaScript-based Google Analytics Tracking Code that empowers webmasters to track activity on standard web pages, Google Analytics also provides a web service and a pair of SDKs to help track user interaction with websites and applications accessed from a mobile device.

The Google Analytics for Mobile Apps SDKs make it easy for you to implement Google Analytics in your mobile apps. The SDKs can be downloaded and used with the iOS and Android application platforms.

The SDKS enable you to track usage of your app just as if it were a website. First, identify the places in your app where you'd like to trigger a pageview or an event, then use the SDK to send these events to Google Analytics.

If you're an Android developer, Analytics also gives you the tools to monitor the success of mobile ads for your app. You can track activity from a click on your ad, to the Android Market, to app download. It's a simple way to determine what marketing efforts are most effective for you.

For more information on tracking user engagement with your native mobile apps, see the developer guides for Android and iOS.

CEM4Mobile Analytics concentrates on end-users and their behaviour with wireless devices. The statistical data can be collected and normalised from number of sources namely: from mobile services by using mobile optimised taglines, mobile networks via Deep Packet Inspection (DPI), server-to-server integrations via the Transaction Interface and customer opinions and values through the Voice-of-Customer channel. CEM4Mobile is offered both Cloud (SaaS) basis, with fast and straight forward integration, and as a local deployment.
